It’s safe to say that Social Media is here to stay in the foreseeable future. A career in this field will be in more of a demand years from now. The demand for people who can think of new creative social campaigns, viral videos, social games, apps, integrated campaigns etc will increase. Social media will evolve current popular platforms might not work in the future and new platforms with more integrated features will replace it. Social media marketers will always find out a way to reach out to users who embrace online media. We don’t rely only on newspapers or TV to get information/news. News finds us through social media. As long as internet is evolving, social media will also evolve. With new technologies the success metrics of social media marketing also becomes easier to track.
There has been no looking back since the day internet was launched. People adopted it quite fast and the penetration is forever growing. Mobile internet is rapidly gaining popularity today and location-based marketing is another thing that you need to look for. Social media is reaching out to the people not only through PCs and laptops but through handheld devices such as smart-phones and tablets. Technology is forever evolving and so are applications.
There are many conflicting opinions to the above question on whether social media will stay or not. Users get sick sometimes of social networks and its use may vary from the present almost compulsive us that we have witnessed. There may be a time when investors no longer feel that social media is a place to be. With new technology the next big thing may be something different.
However, at this point in time, it’s safe to say that social media will be around for many more years. People will continue to consume/use this media if not in the form of social networks. Investors will continue to invest as long as people are using this media.
Having said all these I would love to hear your thoughts on “Is social media just a fad or is it here to stay?” Please do comment.
